France has formalized a significant agreement with KNDS France for the procurement of 25,000 rounds of 40-millimeter telescoped ammunition, a move set to substantially bolster the operational capabilities of the French Armed Forces. The contract, extending until 2026, underscores France’s commitment to modernizing its military and ensuring a robust supply of advanced munitions.
A key component of this acquisition is the serial production of the Multi-Purpose Timed Perforating Projectile (MPTP) variant, specifically designed for effective anti-armor operations. This specialized ammunition enhances the destructive power of French forces against armored targets, providing a critical edge in contemporary combat scenarios.
The deliveries under this contract will unfold in phases, commencing with an initial batch of 18,000 training munitions, essential for maintaining the proficiency of military personnel. Later batches could see this figure potentially rise to 30,000 rounds. Importantly, KNDS France has already delivered an initial 8,000 combat rounds, indicating a swift response to immediate needs.
This 40mm telescoped ammunition is designed for use in several key platforms within the French military. It will primarily equip the French Army’s Jaguar six-wheel armored fighting vehicles, a modern reconnaissance and combat platform. Additionally, the French Navy’s Jacques Chevallier-class replenishment vessels will also utilize these rounds, further enhancing their defensive capabilities at sea.
The procurement highlights France’s proactive approach to strengthening its defense industrial base and ensuring its armed forces are well-equipped for future challenges. As European nations increasingly focus on enhancing their military readiness and supporting allies, investments in advanced ammunition like the 40mm MPTP rounds are vital for maintaining tactical superiority and operational effectiveness across various domains. This agreement with KNDS France solidifies a domestic supply chain for critical munitions.
