In a significant move to bolster its national defense capabilities, Sweden has officially selected Lockheed Martin’s cutting-edge TPY-4 fifth-generation air surveillance radar.
This decision makes Sweden the third nation, following the United States and Norway, to integrate this highly advanced radar platform into its defense architecture.
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has entered into an agreement to acquire multiple TPY-4 systems, with deliveries slated to commence in 2027.
These radars are intended to significantly enhance the Swedish Air Force’s long-range air surveillance capabilities, providing real-time detection and tracking of airborne threats.
This upgrade is particularly crucial as Sweden deepens its integration with NATO’s collective defense framework following its recent accession.
The TPY-4 radar stands out due to its advanced features.
