Tunisia is set to significantly enhance its military and security capabilities with the acquisition of 12 new SUBARU Bell 412EPX multi-role helicopters. This landmark agreement, announced by Bell Textron at the Paris Air Show, marks the first order for this advanced Bell 412 variant in the broader Middle East and African region, underscoring Tunisia’s commitment to modernizing its rotary-wing fleet.
The SUBARU Bell 412EPX is a cutting-edge evolution of the widely trusted Bell 412 series, renowned globally for its versatility and robust performance in demanding operational environments. Designed for high utility and rugged conditions, these new helicopters will serve a crucial role in Tunisia’s diverse military and security missions, ranging from troop transport and logistical support to reconnaissance and potentially search and rescue operations.
These advanced rotorcraft boast impressive capabilities, including an enhanced maximum internal and external weight capacity, allowing for the transport of substantial personnel or critical mission equipment across varied terrains. The helicopter’s design incorporates improved durability, enhanced safety features, a spacious cabin, and a reinforced airframe, all tailored to meet the rigorous demands of military and parapublic operations. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T-9 engines, the 412EPX offers superior takeoff performance and operational efficiency, especially at higher altitudes.
The addition of these 12 new helicopters will expand Tunisia’s already substantial fleet of Bell aircraft, which currently includes models such as the UH-1, 205, and OH-58. This strategic procurement not only modernizes Tunisia’s air force but also strengthens its capacity to respond to evolving security challenges within the region, where stability is of paramount concern.
Bell Textron expressed honor in supporting the Tunisian Air Force’s expansion with such a proven and versatile aircraft, noting the growing international momentum of the SUBARU Bell 412EPX platform. This acquisition solidifies Tunisia’s position in adopting advanced aviation technology, crucial for effective border security, counter-terrorism efforts, and broader national defense in the years to come.
