By Road (Car or Bus)
The distance from Gangtok to Darjeeling by road is around 98 kilometers (61 miles). The journey typically takes about 3 to 4 hours by car or bus, depending on road conditions and traffic. 

The scenic route offers breathtaking views of hills, tea gardens, and valleys. Buses are available from Gangtok’s bus terminals, but private cabs provide a more comfortable and quicker option.


By Train
There is no direct train service between Gangtok and Darjeeling. However, you can first travel from Gangtok to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station, which is around 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Gangtok, a journey of approximately 4 hours by road. 

From NJP, you can catch the iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train), which covers around 88 kilometers (55 miles) to Darjeeling in about 7 hours, offering a unique and historic experience.


By Air
There is no direct flight between Gangtok and Darjeeling. The nearest airport is Pakyong Airport, around 27 kilometers (17 miles) from Gangtok. From Pakyong, you can fly to Bagdogra Airport, 67 kilometers (42 miles) from Darjeeling. The road journey from Bagdogra to Darjeeling takes approximately 3 hours.
